Eldy is a software that turns any standard PC into an easy-to-use computer for people that have never used a computer before.
Eldy provides six buttons that allows you to access internet, email, chat, documents, videoconferencing, pictures, Skype and more.
The study of Eldy usability was made by the Faculty of Psychology, University of Padua,Center for Cognitive Science by analyzing the eye movement of a sample of elderly people who use Eldy.
The period of observation, l’usage mouse-log and walkthrough cognitive showed that :
· Eldy is generally easier to use, except in some parts.
· The difficulties encountered by the elderly are due to non-recognition of some commands or icons.
The evaluation has clarified that the difficulties encountered by the elderly are not simply due to an inadequate understanding of the text and images, but, more interesting, they are due to unfamiliarity with some specific procedures that are generally used in interaction interface.
Overall it was found that Eldy reached its objective and the solutions proposed for affront the problems associated with aging are valuable.
