Publisher's description - AASync 3.6.0.7

AASync is simple to use, and it allows local as well as remote backups over an FTP or SFTP connection.

Makes it very easy to back up your files to a remote server or another local disk or maintain your website!

The sync engine will detect the changes, and copy only the changed files for efficiency.

AASync is a tool you can use for free for synchronizing between local folders (including locally mounted external disks).

Why AASync? What is the point, you may ask.. well here it is: Most File backup utilities can only deal with source and target folders that are mounted on the local system, like an external disk. Well, that is better than nothing, for sure, but it will not offer a lot of data protection.

What does? An offsite backup meaning a daily syncronization of certain folders on your desktop to a remote host! Remote meaning a host in a different location, with which we communicate using some protocol like SFTP-SSH or FTP.

AAsync will do the local sync like everybody else, but it also does Local-to-Remote and Remote-to_local sync. Remote-to_local sync is very rare, very few apps can do it, and none like AASync. AASync does NOT require any custom software to run on the remote host, all that is required is that you have a regular FTP or SFTP account, and that is it!

Here are some key features of "AASync":

· Folder Sync on the Local Host.
· Encoded backup sync with optional file content encryption for total data security.
· Mirror or Cumulative Folder Sync.
· Esay to use retrieval of data from any backup sync, local or remote.
· Folder Sync on the Local Host.
· Folder Sync from the Local Host to a Remote Host using SFTP-SSH or FTP-SSL.
· If the FTP server requires SSL to be used it is done automatically.
· Folder Sync from a Remote Host to the Local Host using SFTP-SSH or FTP-SSL.
· Any number of simultaneous operations.
· Powerful logging facilities. Logs can be generated according to user defined parameters.
· Unattended scheduled sync with lot of features: scheduled syncs will get done even if AASync is not running. Even more powerful, the machine can be set or wake or power on before a scheduled sync and go to sleep after! AAsync is capable to run completely unattended.
· As part of scheduling, a Chain Sync can run many syncs one after another, in the background, completely unattended.
· AAsync will prevent idle sleep if a sync goes on, making sure ongoing synchronizations are not interrupted.
· AAsync is capable to exclude files by name, extension or full path.
· Easy browsing of remote systems to pick source or target folder.
· Finder Info-Fork Data is preserved during Folder Sync to another Mac
· Filename changes are detected, and thereby the cost of unnecessary file transfers are avoided.
· Intelligent SFTP-SSH protocol that uses the best of both tools.
· Support for Firewalls (SOCKS v5, and Firewall toolkits).
· Correct handling of Unicode filenames.

Requirements:

· Network access to remote systems (local)
· ALL PROTOCOLS: Users must be authorized users on remote system.
· FTP: ftpd must be running.
· SFTP-SSH: sshd must be running, your client must be enabled to connect to it. the SFTP subsystem must be enabled on the server (usually in /etc/ssh2/sshd_config). Remote systems must have these UNIX utilities: sh cp mv rm tar compress uncompress zip chmod

Limitations:

· Remote synchronizing operations are disabled.

· Conversion Notes: Selective Retrieve is a new feature in AASync 3.6.
· If you browse a encoded/encrypted destination for files AASync will show you the original file names, making it easy to pick what you want.
· Remember, these files are actually renamed during the encoded backup sync.
· In order to make this happen, after installing AASync 3.6 you must run the sync in question successfully before you can use the selected retrieve feature.
· If you have not done so, You can still browse and restore selectively, but you will not see the original filenames during the browse.
· Once you run the sync and try selective retrieval, all files known to AASync will be displayed in green with their original names, where the files that only exist in the destination (remember, these are cumulative backups) will be displayed in red with their actual remote file names.
· It is recommended that you make a complete rebuild of your backup with AASync 3.6 starting with an empty destination folder.
· After this you ...
